(CNN) – CNN Contributor LZ Granderson says people who call themselves Christians can hurt the faith the most. In light of the recent theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, Granderson highlights examples where Christianity was used to explain national tragedies.
[1:36] "Yes, there are public figures who make fun of religion. But it's hard to see anything more damaging to Christianity than divisive, and sometimes hateful statements made by some of its leaders at a time when the country needs to come to together and heal from a tragedy."
[2:01] "The problem is when disaster claims innocent victims or causes great deal of pain and loss, instead of showing compassion, so-called leaders of faith say the gays did it. Or the liberals."
