(CNN) – Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.
- Tomorrow Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will go before the UN to seek observer status for the Palestinian Territory. Countries like France, Norway, Spain, and China say they will support the measure while the United States and Germany will likely oppose it. Dr. Hanan Ashraw, with the Palestinian Liberation Organization, says statehood would be a historic turning point:
"For the world to begin to work to rectify a grave historical injustice that the Palestinians have undergone beginning with the creation of the state of Israel in 1948."
- A cease-fire in Israel's conflict with Gaza appears to be holding, even though the details for a long-term agreement have yet to be worked out. Now that the fighting has ended it's still unclear which side actually won. But, there is a rather surprising group of people celebrating the results – people who enjoy eating fish. Ahmed Ferwana is a language and literature teacher who lives in Gaza City:
"You know everybody started cheering out because that means a lot of fish. And rare fish to be coming to the markets."
- It appears the days of the belly putter are numbered, at least for professional golfers. Today the sport's two governing bodies announced a rule change that will effectively ban the use of long putters when anchored against the body. Pro golfer Keegan Bradley, who won the 2011 PGA Championship, is ready to accept the change:
"I am going to obviously obey the rules and respect what the USGA does. I'm not gonna cause a big problem or anything like that ."
