(CNN) – Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin says he's yet to see any reason why he shouldn't sign a bill that would prevent American families from adopting Russian children. On Wednesday, Russia's Upper House of Parliament unanimously approved the measure. It's widely seen as retaliation for a new U.S. law that singles out Russians accused of human rights violations. American Lee Allen and his wife are parents to two 13-year-old boys, adopted as babies from Russia.  He says he can't fathom how tough this must be on kids who have already met their prospective parents:

"They start to dream. They dream of a family. They dream of a home. They dream of a mom and dad and a brother and a sister.  I can't even imagine telling a child that uh, they need to, they need to stop that dream." FULL POST

(CNN) – When it comes to how people react in disaster situations, be it the recent tornadoes in the Southeast or the killer tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in 2011, some people just don't listen.

It happened with Hurricane Katrina. It happened with Hurricane Sandy.

Thousands of people who were told to evacuate – DIDN’T.

So, what were they thinking?

  • The president and senators return to work tomorrow, only days away from what could become a very serious situation. The event is known as the fiscal cliff.  Without action from Congress, come January 1st, taxes, unemployment checks, the economy and more are on the line. Talks are frozen, but CNN's Lisa Desjardins found some smart relief for the dilemma with a selection of new songs about the fiscal cliff:

"While it's a serious thing, it's almost comical in nature, because we knew this was coming since last summer. It's just really a deadline that was arbitrarily established and it's all sort of arbitrary," says songwriter Jeff Michaels. FULL POST

(CNN) – The Fiscal Cliff looms, a federal Frankenstein created by Congress. As lawmakers remain frozen, individual Americans are responding to the situation. In song.

They range from comical to cynical to practical. But the common denominator is sharp wit.

Mike Offutt, retired chemistry teacher and songwriter sings "you can't kick this can off the road. Especially if that road goes off a cliff."

Website designer and songwriter Jeff Michaels says "while its a very serious thing it's also comical because we've known about this since last summer."

Accountant (and songwriter) Todd Chappelle expressed voter frustration using an 80's anthem of teenage soul-searching, Night Ranger's Sister Christian. "Fiscal cliff you know the time has come. The first of January won't be very fun..."

(CNN) –Merry Christmas and welcome to a special holiday edition of CNN Radio News Day.

  • Family, friends, feasting, it's all part of the fun of Christmas day.  But, for some volunteers in Pasadena, California there's no time to rest.  That's because they're preparing the beautiful floral floats for the New Year's Day  Rose Bowl Parade.  CNN's Jim Roope visited the floral workshop where every little flower matters.

" We are cutting the pedals off the tops of the flowers and then it takes forever", says 17-year-old Marcy Campos a Tournament of Roses Parade float decorator volunteer. FULL POST
