(CNN) – Depending on your political party preference, what one person may call a successful president, another may call a failure.
So how do you measure success beyond what a president does while in office? You look at what he leaves behind.
[:36] “Nothing succeeds like succession.”
Akhil Reed Amar is a professor of Constitutional Law at Yale University. He says it’s not what a president does, but rather the party legacy he leaves behind that marks his success.
[:54] “Success means basically handing off power to your team for a long time.”
Of the 43 Presidencies before Mr. Obama, 16 were re-elected.
From that field of contenders and with succession being the measure of success, Professor Amar lists the top five two-term presidents in US history starting with number five.
Who would be on your list? Let us know in the comment section.
