(CNN) – Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.

  • Heavy fighting is being reported today in Syria around the towns of Aleppo, Homs and even in the capital city of Damascus. Some 200  people were reported killed in the conflict in just the past two days alone. While rebels claim to be making advances,  Bashar al-Assad's Deputy Foreign Minister tells CNN's Frederik Pleitgen the rebellion has failed:

"We are winning. We have already won. You are in Damascus, you are aware of what is happening around Damascus. (The rebels) threatened to have Damascus more than one year ago, and they are not there. We are still here." FULL POST
