Here are some of the stories we cover in today's edition:

  • President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, meet on stage tonight for their first debate. It will be broadcast live on CNN from the debate hall on the University of Denver campus.  And it could present a make-or-break moment for either candidate.  A CNN poll shows  56 percent of likely voters believe Mr. Obama will come out on top, but debate expert Steve Keller says there are dangers for the president:
