(CNN) – As the College of Cardinals decide when they’ll lock themselves away to begin the process of electing a new Pope, the odds makers are already at work.

Feilim MacAnIomaire with the online betting site PaddyPower, says betting on who the pope will be, from what country he will come, how long the conclave will last, how many ballots it will take, and what name the new pope will take is big business.

[:58] “We firmly believe that it’s going to be the biggest non-sporting event that we’ve ever had betting on.”

The last papal election of Benedict XVI took in over a million Euro in bets, and MacAnIomaire believes this papal election will exceed that.

It must be absolute hell to wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and realize you're Sarah Palin. If it was me, I'd drive over to the nearest bakery and stick my head in a bread slicing machine.

The Catholic church should be entitled to royalties on the bets.

Hey, why not a woman? I understand there is nothing preventing a womanfrom being a Cardinal or Pope.

Yes, there is. One of the conditions of becoming a pope is that you are male.

Specifically, to become pope, you must first be a bishop. To be a bishop, you must first be a priest. And to be a priest, you must first be male. The first and second conditions can be fixed right away if the chosen person isn't already a bishop or at least a priest, though that's quite unlikely. The third can't.

Whoa ! Step back Lex we still haven't gotten over the church that considers gays as perverts.
I can't get over their costumes . What would you think if you were walking down a dark ally and saw an older man wearing a dress and a pointed hat? I'd call 911 .

I predict the next pope will be none other than Chester The Molester.

The CC could make some money...

My fellow Cardinals, we just put a fortune down on the long shot to win on the first ballot. We stand to clear 1 billion dollars, so please, vote with confidence....
