(CNN) - There’s an old quote from Mister Rogers that has been circulating on Facebook since the Boston Marathon bombings.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news” Fred Rogers wrote in his book on parenting, “my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

That idea – look for the helpers – is a thread that ties together so many disparate stories.

It’s an uplifting perspective changer on the news that is breaking in Boston on this Friday before Earth Day. FULL POST

  • The city of Boston has been under siege all day. Authorities put surrounding communities and neighborhoods on lockdown, telling residents to stay inside. In some parts of town police were going door-to-door looking for Dzhokar Tsarnaev. Law enforcement officials say Tsarnaev escaped an overnight shootout with police that left his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the other man wanted in the bombings, dead. CNN's Barbara Starr reports investigators are combing through everything – photos, intel reports, phone records – to learn more about the suspects:

"They are indeed looking to see if these two men had any connections to overseas groups, frankly to overseas, terrorism. No conclusion about that yet. We want to emphasize that very strongly." FULL POST

(CNN) - David Sarich had long finished the Boston Marathon when the bombs went off:

[:20] "I finished about 1:20. I got my clothes, got my partner, went in search of free beer. It was about 2:50 when I heard a big boom."

He's now back home in Atlanta. He's safe but the experience has left him shaken. He says at the time the bombs went off, most of the runners on the course were those running for a charity or for a family member:

[1:07] "Those are the people I usually run with. That I usually train with. I was just lucky to be further along."

(CNN) – Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.

  • Search and rescue efforts continue today in West, Texas. Much of the small town was flattened last night by a huge explosion at a fertilizer plant. It was a blast so strong it registered as a magnitude 2.1 earthquake. A number of first responders, including firefighters, were already at the plant, battling a fire that broke-out hours earlier. As many as 15 people are estimated dead, with more than 160 hurt. A dangerous component of fertilizer production is commercial nitrogen. Emory University chemistry professor Doug Mulford says it's the process to isolate usable nitrogen that's tricky, even though it's all around us:

"We have to get it in a form that usable, and that's what they were doing at the West, Texas plant and other chemical fertilizer plants." FULL POST

  • Police and the FBI have been feverishly sifting through thousands of photos and hundreds of hours of video from Monday's terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, and today comes word that their hard work is paying off. Authorities tell CNN they want to question a man who was seen, on video, wearing a white baseball cap, a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, and a black jacket. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino was briefed on the evidence:

"They have more videos on this one than any case the FBI ever had. Especially across from Lord & Taylor where the bombing, second bombing, happened. They have direct camera right on the location." FULL POST
